Since early 2019, Burkina Faso has been facing a rapidly developing humanitarian crisis, with over a million people displaced internally as of the end of 2020. The crisis is caused by increased activity of armed actors in the ‘Three Border’ area between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

IMPACT Initiatives has been operating in Burkina Faso since 2019, largely through its ‘REACH’ Initiative. REACH’s work in Burkina Faso is mostly focused on humanitarian situation monitoring in the accessible and hard to reach areas of the tri-border region between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, as well as the implementation of a countrywide multi sector needs assessments in 2020. These activities aim to inform crisis-wide humanitarian planning, coordination and prioritization. As of 2020, REACH is developing a new stream of work through ‘Area-based assessments’ and IDP site profiling activities, which aim to inform local level coordination. REACH is also in the process of developing sectoral research cycles in support of Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL) actors as well as the Logistics Cluster.
